A New Addition to the Museum Scene: The Museum of Osteology

A new museum is making its home in 10301 S Sunnylane Rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73160, United States, and it’s one you’ve never seen before. The Museum of Osteology, set to open in 2010, will be devoted to the study of bones. That’s right, bones. From dinosaurs to mammals, this museum will have it all.  The brainchild of Jay Villemarette, the founder of Osteo Decisions, LLC, a company that provides osteological consulting services, the museum has been years in the making. When completed, it will boast the largest collection of osteological specimens in the world. And with more than 300 skeletons on display, it’s sure to be a hit with visitors of all ages.  The Museum of Osteology will be located in the Science Museum Oklahoma complex in Oklahoma City. This location was chosen because of its central location and because it already has a strong infrastructure in place to accommodate the needs of a museum.  The museum will have three main galleries: vertebrates, invertebrates, and human osteology. In addition, there will be a gift shop and classrooms for educational programming. The goal is to educate visitors about the importance of bones in our everyday lives and how they can be used to understand the history and evolution of life on Earth.  You can take a quick visit to Oklahoma City Zoo. In addition, there will be Triceratops and Edmontosaurus skeletons on display. These fossils are from private collections and have never been seen by the public before.  The invertebrate gallery will showcase the variety of animals that have skeletal systems. This includes everything from crabs and lobsters to starfish and sea urchins. Visitors will also get to see how these animals compare to one another in terms of size and structure.  The human osteology gallery will feature a variety of human skeletons, both real and replicas. This gallery will teach visitors about the skeletal system and how it works. In addition, there will be interactive displays that show how different cultures around the world use bones in their everyday lives.  If you’re looking for something new to do this summer, make sure to check out the Museum of Osteology when it opens its doors in Oklahoma City. This unique museum will showcase more than 300 skeletons from all different types of animals—including some dinosaurs!—and is sure to be fun for everyone in the family Here’s directions to our Office in Norman.
